Kitchen Scrap Feed

Reason No 94

Kitchen Scraps!  Instead of tossing in the trash, feed it to your farm animals!

I waste a lot of food. I mean A LOT OF FOOD! Potato peels, onion and scallion scraps, carrot and celery scraps. Apple and pear peels, etc.. I was tossing everything in the freezer for stock but now I have bags of the stuff. I don't make stock that often and once it's freezer burned, might as well be worthless.

I have anxiety every single time I toss out half finished meals. The anxiety escalates if I toss anything that was left over in the fridge. I'm not talking old food. Just extras. A cup of pasta, a cup of sauce, a mix of veggies, anything that was too good to throw out but not enough for another meal. You know what I mean?

If I make a dinner for the both of us, there is usually a little left over. I've gotten into the habit to not over cook but sometimes I make enough for the entire neighborhood. I plan on using the extras for left overs or alternate meals. But still there is always some left over.

So - PIGS would be the answer. I read once that a farmer wife, each evening after dinner,  dumped her extras into the dish pan she washed the meals dishes in. She claimed the pigs loved the little bit of soap that sometimes still clung to the sides of the bin. I have to try it! Reason 94 to have a farm.
